Marten, Arlene (1928 - 2001)


Arlene Marten, 73, Loyal, Clark County, died on Monday, July 9, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Marshfield. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., on Wednesday, July 11, at Community Funeral Home, Spencer, and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m., on Thursday, July 12, at St. John's Lutheran Church, North Spencer. The Rev. Steven Gjerde will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael and Mark Salter, Larry and Randy Marten, Paul Abendroth, and Alan Seefeld. Honorary pallbearers will be Janalee, Joseph, Jayme, and Jordan Marten, Michalle Abendroth, Renee Blacio, and Dena Chapman.


Arlene Seefeld was born on June 23, 1928, to Fred and Alvina (nee Hendrickson) Seefeld. She was salutatorian of her senior class at Spencer High School. She married Eugene Marten on Aug. 30, 1947, at St. John's Lutheran Church, North Spencer. She was a farm wife. She was very active in St. John's Luther Church functions, serving as chairman of the Dorcas Group, and making quilts for the missions. She was the current president of TOPS-Loyal Club. She had also worked part time at P.J.'s Plus. She enjoyed working at various crafts and gardening.


Survivors include her husband, Eugene Marten, Loyal one daughter, Judy (Mike) Salter, Black Creek two sons, terry (Sandy) Marten, Auburndale, and Jerry (Petie) Marten, Unity nine grandchildren three step-grandchildren 10 great-grandchildren and three sisters-in-law, Francis, Nola and Bessie Seefeld.


She was preceded in death by her parents four brothers and daughter-in-law, Jean.


Community Funeral Home, Spencer, is assisting the family with arrangements.
