Meacham, Vernon F. (1918 - 2001)


Vernon F. Meacham, 83, Loyal, Clark County, died on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. A memorial services was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the Loyal American Legion.


Vernon Meacham was born on Aug. 30, 1918, in the town of Unity, to Fred and Myrtle (nee Hebert) Meacham. He was educated in Riplinger and Greenwood schools. As a young man, he farmed with his father and spent several summers working the wheat field of Montana. He served with the 8th Air Force in England during World War II, and was destined for the Pacific Theatre when Japan Surrendered. During his working years, he participated in the construction of the toll way system in Chicago and northern Illinois, and also the Marshfield airport. He worked at Pathfinder in Spencer and farmed the family farm until his retirement. He married Violet Kyne of London, England. She preceded him in death in 1959.


Survivors include his children, Cherry (Pat) Kaboskey, Mukwonago, Lee (Doris) Meacham, Wis. Rapids, Lynn (Janet) Meacham, Greenwood, Denise Meacham, Boyd, Dana (Kimberley) Meacham, Loyal, and Christine (John) Burn, Kent, England 12 grandchildren 8 great-grandchildren and one sister, Birdine (Glen) Oestreich, Winthrop Harbor, Ill.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet his parents a sister, Norma and a brother, Jesse.


Memorials may be made to the Loyal Public Library.


The Cremation Society of Wisconsin assisted the family with arrangements.
