Feuerstein, Martin (1906 - 2002)


Martin Max Feuerstein, 95, Neillsville, Clark County, died on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, at the Neillsville Memorial Nursing Home. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Neillsville. The Rev. Woodrow Pace officiated. Music was provided by Ronald Resong, organist Rita Kuchenbecker, soloist and the St. Mary's adult choir. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren. Pallbearers were also his grandchildren, Barbara Adam, Kier Cline, Steve Frank, Jackson Negaard, Andrew Noll and Susan Wood.

 

Martin G. Feuerstein was born on Feb. 13, 1906, in Marshfield, to Bernard and Margaret (nee Gass) Feuerstein. He attended St. John's Parochial School and Purdy Vocational School. He was then employed at Upham Furniture Co. and Lang and Sharman Foundry and Machine Shop in Marshfield. In 1928, he and Earl Bruhn established the B F Machine Shop in Neillsville that included a saw mill and foundry. The business was sold in 1971, when he and Bruhn retired. On Oct. 2, 1929, he married Susie Freund at Corpus Christie Church, Bakerville. He was a member of St. Mary's Parish, the Holy Name Society and a trustee for the church for 20 years. He was a member of the Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus. From 1965-85, he served as an alderman of the first ward in Neillsville. Over the years, he was influential in encouraging new industries for Neillsville and remained active in community business affairs. Following retirement, he continued his love of woodworking in a small workshop at his home. His wood craftsmanship can be seen throughout St. Mary's Church, but most noteworthy is the large rosary he crafted from indigenous woods, which hangs near a side altar in the church.


Survivors include his wife, Susie, Neillsville four daughters, Cynthia (Gilbert) Frank, Oshkosh, Lorraine Noll, Two Rivers, Kathryn (Jack) Negaard, Stevens Point, and Janet (Michael) Ward, Wilmette, Ill. 19 grandchildren 26 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and one sister, Victoria Ecklund, Sterling, Va.
 

Preceding him in death were his parents one sister, Marian Feuerstein and one grandchild.


Memorials may be directed to the Memorial Medical Center, Neillsville.


The Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, assisted the family with arrangements.
