Becker, Joseph (1900 - 1981)


Joseph Becker, 80, of 1212 Cedar Av., Marshfield, died at about 9:45 a.m., Tuesday, July 28, 1981, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, from injuries he received on June 30, when he was struck by a car.


He was crossing South Central Av. At Second St. when he was struck by a car driven by Elaine M. Gilbertson, 21, of Route 1, Chili. He was hospitalized for a fractured pelvis and internal injuries and had been placed in intensive care.


Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Friday, July 31, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Loyal, Clark County. Rev. James L. Logan officiated and interment was in the Loyal Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Donald, Allan, Jerome and Arnold Becker, and Robert and Raymond Rondorf.
An 8 p.m. Prayer Service was conducted on July 30. Rinka Funeral Home, Loyal, was in charge of arrangements.


Joseph Becker was born to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph (Elizabeth) Becker on Dec. 9, 1900, in Stockton, Ill.


He moved to Manchester, Iowa, with his parents when he was 12 and was educated there. He never married.


He came to Wisconsin in 1923, and worked for Roddis Plywood Corp., now Weyerhaeuser Co., and then worked for Rollohome Corp. in Marshfield until 1972, when he retired.


Surviving him are two sisters, Mrs. Chris (Corrine) Ryser of Marshfield and Mrs. Alfred (Mae) Rondorf of Loyal and one brother, Walter of Greenwood.


Preceding him in death were his parents and four brothers.
