Kuester, Lawrence Gilbert (1914 - 1981)


Services for Lawrence Gilbert Kuester, 66, of St. Louis and formerly of Greenwood, Clark County, were at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 21, at Ortmann Funeral Home, Orland, Mo.


Mr. Kuester died on Tuesday morning, Aug. 18, 1981, at Veterans Hospital in St. Louis of a heart attack.


Interment was in St. Louis. Ortmann Funeral Home handled arrangements.


Lawrence Kuester was born on Nov. 11, 1914, in Greenwood to William and Emma (nee Goeke) Kuester and received his education at Decker School, Greenwood.


He was married to Hope Ketchpaw in Dec. 1944, in Greenwood. She died on Sept. 26, 1977, in St. Louis.


He later married Ava Freiburghaus in St. Louis on Jan. 6, 1979. She survives.


He operated a sports shop in Greenwood after returning from serving in France during World War II. After his first marriage he lived in Greenwood until leaving for St. Louis in 1950, where he was employed as a carpenter and also a manager of the American Legion Hall.


He is survived by his second wife his mother, Mrs. Emma Kuester of Greenwood two daughters, Mrs. Dayne (Patricia) Jinson and Mrs. Kenneth (Mary Lou) Laster, both of St. Louis six grandchildren two step-daughters one brother, Leon of Greenwood and two sisters, Loretta Kuester of Greenwood and Mrs. Eldora Luther of Merrill.


His father died in Jan. 1973.
