Henderson, Mary (1877 - 24 Nov 1900)
Mary Henderson, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Henderson, died at her home in Pine Valley, Clark County, at 2:30 Saturday morning of quick consumption, aged 23 years. Last spring she had an attack of la grippe, which later developed into consumption. All in the power of medical skill was done to stay the ravages of the fatal disease, but without avail. The frail form grew weaker from day to day and the loved ones watched the life spark as it gradually grew dimmer, and went out, leaving behind sorrowing hearts. She was born in Vernon County and moved here with her parents about nine years ago. She was of a quiet and retiring disposition and devoted her time to the happiness and comfort of those around her. In a noble, spotless life as hers there is no death. It is passing of a bright spirit to the realms of light from whence it came, as gently as the coming of the day dawn. Her life was that which tends to uplift and better the human race and a shining example to all efforts to attain a higher plane.
The last sad rites were conducted at the Prince of Peace Church in Pine Valley, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating. The church was filled with the friends who had gathered to pay the last tribute to the departed one and a larger number remained outside the building, being unable to gain entrance.
She leaves a father and mother, four brothers and two sisters to mourn her loss to whom is extended the sympathy of all.
The bereaved relatives desire to express their appreciation the many kindnesses tendered them by friends and neighbors in their hour of trial.
