Eldred Howard Tesmer was born on June 8, 1921, in Colby, the son of Herman and Helen (Nagel) Tesmer. As a young boy, Eldred moved with his family to a farm north of Neillsville, where he received his education and graduated from Neillsville High School in 1938. He was united in marriage to Shirley Jean Schmitz on July 15, 1942, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Bakerville. They farmed in the town of Fremont, rural Spencer. Eldred also worked for Tesmer Construction and Berg Equipment for over 20 years, until retiring in 1984. After his wife's retirement in 1985, they moved to Phillips and resided there for 14 years. In 1999, they moved to Loyal and have resided there since.

He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a former member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Chili, a former member of the Chili Lion's Club, and was active in the Phillips and Loyal Senior Citizens.

Eldred had many interests, but especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends, playing cards, woodworking, carving, hunting and fishing.

He will be dearly missed by his four children: Alan (Ellen) of Chetek, James (Sherry) of Madison, Joanne Tesmer of Marshfield, and Susan (Bob) Devine of Racine; seven grandsons and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Milford Tesmer of Neillsville; two sisters-in-law: Goldie Tesmer of Marshfield and Winifred Tesmer of Florida; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley, on March 21, 2011; one son, Warren Tesmer, on Nov. 1, 2007; one sister, Marion Tesmer in infancy; and two brothers: Robert and Raymond Tesmer.
