Donald Franklin Stabnow, 49, of Chetek and formerly of Greenwood, died March 15 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis, where he had been a patient since February 4.  He had suffered two strokes and death was attributed to pneumonia.

Donald Stabnow, son of Harold and Ester (Etta) Stabnow, was born in Greenwood August 7, 1916.  He was a 1934 graduate of Greenwood High School and of the Milwaukee Mortuary School in 1937.  He was employed in a Milwaukee funeral home until 1940, when he opened the Stabnow Funeral Home in Greenwood.

He was a World War II Veteran, having served in the army from 1942 in New Guinea and the Philippines, until he received his discharge in 1945.  After coming back to Greenwood he re-opened the Stabnow Funeral home, which he conducted until September 1957.

He was married to Etta Gregory in 1955 at Watertown, S. D.  After leaving Greenwood, the Stabnows went to Wisconsin Dells and four years ago they move to Chetek.  Mr. Stabnow was a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge of Greenwood.

Surviving are his wife; his father, Harold Stabnow of Greenwood; a brother, Dale Stabnow of Tomah; and four step-children.

Memorial funeral services were held in Chetek Friday. Funeral services were held Saturday from the Hill Funeral home in Greenwood, with the Rev. Orval Egbert, pastor of the Immanuel and Zion United Churches officiating.  Military rites were in charge of the Wallis-Hinker Legion Post, No. 238.  Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.
