Unity - Stopping over between trains at the above thriving and growing village, on Monday last, we had time to visit the different places of business, and found the inhabitants very sanguine of a lively summer.

The tram road of D. J. Spaulding & Co. was nearly completed when we were there, and they started up their mill on Tuesday last. We were informed by Mr. W. J. Durham, general manager of the affairs at the store, that the company intended to cut about two million feet the present season, should the tram prove as big a success as it now promises. They manufacture about 30 thousand shingles daily at their mill - using at present logs under 12 feet, - but should prices improve, Mr. D. says they can increase the manufacture to 70 thousand daily.

There are two general stores in Unity, D. J. Spaulding & Co.’s and S. A. Cook, both contain a good assortment of general merchandise, and enjoy a liberal patronage.

A. Petrie keeps hardware and a stock of furniture.

J. H. Cook deals in drugs, medicines and notions, and has a neat little store.

C. C. Barber sells furniture and takes contracts for building houses.

Henry Rengut is the village shoe maker and keeps busy the year round, shoeing the inhabitants thereabouts.

The village hotel is kept by Mr. Ransom, who seems to have a fair patronage, but owing to circumstances, he is desirous of selling out, and offers a good bargain to the buyer.

A new hotel is about to be opened by J. P. Drake, who has rented a building for that purpose.

S. A. Cook is about to add a millinery department to his store, which will be presided over my Miss Maggie Christie.
