Conklin, Lila Kay (Marriage - 17 September 1966)

St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thorp was the setting Saturday for the nuptial mass uniting in marriage Miss Lila Kay Conklin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Conklin of Rt. 3, Thorp, and George G. Reed of Hurley. Performing the double ring ceremony during the 10 a.m. mass was the Rev. Francis Brockman. Mr. Conklin escorted his daughter down the white carpet to an altar graced with bouquets. Nuptial music was furnished by the mixed choir of the church.

For her wedding the bride chose a bone white floor length dress, styled with a jeweled bateau neckline and cap sleeves. Lace covered the bodice and extended in petals length wise of the skirt. Her elbow length veil was attached to a pearl crown, tipped with jewels. She carried a gold throated orchid, surrounded by carnations and green ivy streamers.

Mrs. Judith Ann Kesler of Cloquet, Minn., was her maid of honor. Connie Conklin of Thorp served as bridesmaid. The attendants wore cotillion blue floor length dresses fashioned with bateau necklines that topped the lace bodices. A taffeta panel accented what front of their skirts, and the back was enhanced by Watteau effect taffeta panels with a bow. Their veiled blue crowns were accented with pearls. They carried bouquets of white carnations and pink roses.

Dave Gustafson of Hurley was best man. Groomsman was James Aleva of Hurley, and ushers were Edward Irish of Abbotsford and Joe Waichulis of Thorp,

Ann Marie Reed of Beloit served as flowergirl, and Donald Reed of Wisconsin Rapids as ringbearer.

A reception for guests was held following the ceremony at the bride’s home.

Mrs. Reed is a 1964 graduate of Thorp High School and has been employed by the Thorp Finance Corporation. Mr. Reed, a 1961 graduate of the Hurley High School, is employed by an insurance Company.

Mr. and Mrs. Reed will make their home in Hurley.
