Schmidt, Mary Elizabeth (Marriage - 11 November 1967)

Miss Mary Elizabeth Schmidt of Oshkosh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Schmidt of rural Neillsville exchanged nuptial vows with Gordon Smith of Oshkosh, son of Mrs. Esther Smith of Rt. 2 Neillsville, in a 12-noon high mass Saturday in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville. The Rev. George M. Nelson performed the double ring ceremony. Potted white chrysanthemums graced the altar. Nuptial music was furnished by St. Mary’s school children’s choir.

Mr. Schmidt gave his daughter in marriage. For her wedding, the bride chose a white, floor-length gown of organza, fashioned in an A-line style. Lace appliqués and seed pearls trimmed the lower edge of the skirt. The modified Empire waist featured long, tapered sleeves and round neckline. Seed pearls and lace appliqués enhanced the neckline. A long detachable train cascaded from a bow attached to the back waistline. Her silk illusion veil fell from a crown of lace edged with pearls and accented with aurora borealis. She carried a crescent bouquet of white chrysanthemums and blue carnations, with ferns as a base and tied with white ribbon.

Mrs. Richard Schmidt was matron-of-honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Kenneth Smith of Stevens Point and Carolyn Schmidt of Neillsville. Lorie Schmidt served as junior bridesmaid. The attendants wore floor length Empire-styled sheaths of royal blue brocade with skirts of blue crepe. Their bodices featured scoop necklines with a string of crystals enhancing each. Each carried a crescent-shaped bouquet of pink chrysanthemums and white carnations on fern.

Bestman was Kenneth Smith of Stevens Point. Groomsmen were Richard Schmidt of Neillsville, Bernard Zager of Stevens Point, and Ralph Schmidt of Neillsville. Ushers were Alvin Lezotte of Neillsville and Marvin Smith of Medford.

The bride, a 1965 graduate of Neillsville High School, is employed in a hospital in Oshkosh. Mr. Smith, a 1965 graduate of Neillsville High School works in Neenah.
