September 9, 1937 - ROHDE-SCHWARZE


One of the prettiest weddings ever performed in the West Side Reformed Church was held at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon, September 9, 1937, when Miss Lucille Anna Schwarze, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schwarze was united in marriage to Gilbert Carl Rohde, son of Edward Rohde, Rev. Paul Franzmeier officiated. The bride was given in marriage by her father.


Mrs. Paul Franzmeier played the wedding march and Mrs. Willard Stafford and Herbert Humke sang two songs.


The bride was attired in a white lace dress with a long train and wore a finger tip veil and carried a bouquet of gladiolus and roses.


Miss Velva Rohde as maid of honor wore a pink lace dress with headband to match. Mrs. Walter Schwarze and Mrs. Arno Miller, as bridesmaids, wore lace dresses of blue and yellow respectively with headbands to match. Little Richard Franzmeier, in white, was ring bearer and Jeanette Humke, also in white, was flower girl.


The groom was attended by Bernard Meier as best man and Walter Schwarze and Arno Miller were ushers. All wore dark suits.


175 guests were entertained after the ceremony at a reception helot at the church parlors which was decorated in pin, blue and yellow streamers and the table with a large wedding cake and a birthday cake for the groom.


The young couple left for North Dakota on a wedding trip and will be at home in Neillsville after September 20th, where Mr. Rohde is employed in the Soil Conservation office.


Both young people are graduates of the local high school. The groom with the class of 1930 and the bride with the class of 1933.


Those from out of town who attended the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Clark Brooks, Lynn Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Rohde, Juneau Mr. and Mrs. Francis Schweinler of Mosinee Mr. and Mrs. Robert Raatz, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schultz and children, Beaver Dam Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wehling, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Wehling, Loyal Mr. and Mrs. Axel Sorenson, Withee Wallace J. Landry, Donald Speich and Misses Helen Thoma, Norene Savage and Emelia Matkovich all of Neillsville.
