Brown, Frances E. (Marriage - 1 JUL 1899)

A nuptial event of unusual importance, uniting in marriage Robert J. MacBride, Jr., son of ex-Consul and Mrs. R.J. MacBride, and Frances E. Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lamonte Brown, of this city (Neillsville, Clark County), occurred at the home of the bride's parents, last Saturday afternoon, Rev. Longenecker, pastor of the Congregational Church, performing the ceremony. It was a quiet, yet pretty affair, none but relatives being present, and it came in the nature of a great surprise to the many friends of both parties, who had thought the event was to take place some weeks hence.

Neither bride or groom require extensive introduction to Neillsville people, having been reared to manhood and womanhood in this city and both enjoying a wide circle of friends and acquaintances, who all join in wishing the young couple the richest blessing that can come to wedded life.

Mr. MacBride is a graduate of our High schools, having received his diploma in 1891, and also of the State University Law School, being admitted to the bar in 1894, just previous to his twenty-first birthday. This fact was overlooked by the justices of the Supreme Court in view of his excellent standings and record in the Law school. In August of '94 he accompanied his father to Edinburgh, Scotland, there to accept the private secretary-ship of Consul MacBride, and he remained there during the entire term of Mr. MacBride's service. Shortly after his return home, or rather in the spring of '98, he was elected justice of the peace, to fill a vacancy, and the following year he was elected to the same office for the full term, receiving in both election the largest vote ever accorded an aspirant for a like office in Clark County. In April of 1899 he enlisted with Co. A., Third Wis. Vol., and served with them through the Puerto Rican campaign.

He is a member of the law firm MacBride, Clark MacBride, and has a promising future before him.

The bride is one of Neillsville's most charming young ladies, and possesses a sweet and retiring disposition, which has won for her the friendship of all who know her. She is likewise a graduate of the Neillsville High School and has been prominent in society circles of the city.

The newly wedded couple departed on the afternoon train for a short visit at St. Paul, Minn. and Omaha, and returned Tuesday evening. For the present they will make their home at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. R.J. MacBride.
