George E. & Lydia Jane (Blanchard) Norton
Greenwood, Clark Co., Wisconsin
George E. Norton married Lydia Jane Blanchard, January 7, 1849 in Sangamon County, Illinois. He was born in New York during 1832. She was a native of Ohio and was born in 1836. They and their children, George Jr., Charles E., Charlotte and Eva were living in Eaton Township, Clark County, Wisconsin when the 1870 Census was compiled. They were the very first family recorded by the census taker. Like the majority of settlers in Eaton township at that time, George and his sixteen-year-old namesake both worked in the pineries. By the time the 1875 Census was recorded, they had apparently left the area.
