Lt. Col. Mark A. Meyer honored a Service Member of the Month

Lt. Col. Mark A Meyer

Lt. Colonel Mark Meyer was born in Neillsville and worked on his family’s dairy farm until he enlisted in the Air Force in 1978.  In 1981, Colonel Meyer received his Bachelor of Science degree in occupational education from Southern Illinois University.

His education broadened over the next several years, attending Squadron Officer’s School at Maxwell Air Base, AL, in 1991, receiving his master’s degree in aeronautical science, aerospace management at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 1992, getting an additional master’s degree in 1993 for education in counseling at Northern Montana College, and a final master’s degree in 2000 for military art and science, Air Command and Staff College, also at Maxwell Air force Base, AL.

While working his way through school; Colonel Meyer also received several promotions to land him where he is today.  In February 1987, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant through Officer Training School and in 1989 he received First Lieutenant.

In 1991, Colonel Meyer received captain status, and in 1998, was commissioned major.  In May 2003, he got his current status as lieutenant colonel.

Lieutenant Colonel Mark A. Meyer is the senior U. S. Advisor to the Iraqi Army Regional Support Unit base commander, Camp Taji, which is the largest military installation in Iraq.

His education and training provide him the background necessary to successfully lead an elite team of U. S. Army, Navy, and Air Force personnel who support over 16,000 Iraqi Army soldiers on Camp Taji plus 16 forward operating bases in the Baghdad area.

With his expertise; Colonel Meyer oversees multi-million dollar construction and renovation contracts in support of the Iraqi Security Forces and is responsible for the security of 450 coalition forces on the Iraqi side of Camp Taji.

Some of Colonel Meyer’s major awards and decorations include USAF Meritorious Service Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, DSAF Achievement Medal and Combat Readiness Medal.

Lt. Col. Mark A.
