On Sunday, June 24, 1979, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Shortess, 1341 W. Business Highway 83, Alamo, Texas, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Labor Temple in Marshfield. Special guests attending were seven brothers and sisters of wife, sister of husband, their children and grandchildren.

A prayer was given by the bride’s nephew, Don Decker of Greenwood, and comments were made by Don Decker and the couple’s three children. Mrs. Shortess had a corsage of white roses with daisies and stephanotis, with bold leaves and a gold ribbon. Mr. Shortess had a boutonniere of white roses and gold leaves and a gold ribbon.

Mr. Shortess attended school in the Chicago, Illinois area, and Mrs. Shortess attended the Greenwood school. They were married June 24, 1929 at Greenwood. They have three children, Richard Shortess, Racine, Shirley (Shortess) Klaar, Racine, and Larry Shortess, Marshfield. They have eight grandchildren.

Mr. Shortess is engaged in farming and Mrs. Shortess is a housewife. His hobbies are fishing, and hers are reading and sewing.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Toltzman celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at a dinner at Trinity Lutheran Church, Spencer, and a celebration in the afternoon at the Village Hall, Spencer.

Mr. and Mrs. Toltzman were married June 25, 1919 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal.

In attendance were just the immediate family, including their four children, Eldred of Melrose Park, Illinois, Raymond of Spencer, Delmar of Spencer, and Ronald of Las Vegas, Nevada, and their 15 children and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Toltzman attended school at Willowbrook in the Town of Unity. His hobbies include reading and gardening.

Mrs. Toltzman attended Loyal schools and is interested in crafts, reading and gardening.

The Toltzmans are member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Spencer, and the Senior Citizen’s group.

Francis Steiner, vocational agriculture instructor at Granton High School, was honored today at the annual summer conference of the Wisconsin Association of vocational agriculture instructor for 30 years in his profession. He is a graduate of Platteville University and his entire teaching career has been in the Granton Public Schools. He grew up at Mauston, is married, has five children, and resides in the village of Granton.

Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Davel, Loyal, marked their Golden Wedding Anniversary with a July 8 Mass of Thanksgiving at 10:30 o’clock a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church. The celebration continued with a dinner honoring their anniversary for relatives and family followed by an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. at the American Legion Club in Loyal.

Lawrence was born February 11, 1905 to Albert and Florence Davel. He graduated from the Loayl High School in 1922. His wife was born March 12, 1906 to Frank and Julia Shupe. She graduated from Loayl High School in 1924. Lawrence Davel and the former Nettie Shupe were married July 3, 1029 in Milwaukee. Witnesses to their marriage were Marie (Davel) Canney and Lawrence Kessenich.

Mrs. Davel was a school teacher before her marriage, having graduated from Stevens Point Teachers College. After raising their three children, she joined her husband in managing Davel’s Grocery Store.

Mrs. Davel is a member of St. Anthony’s Altar Society, and a member of a bridge club for over 40 years.

After graduating from high school, Mr. Davel was employed in several banks in Marshfield and Loyal, then was employed by Paine Webber & Co., stockbrokers, for five years in Milwaukee. Besides operating Davel’s Store until 1968, when they retired, Mr. Davel has been City Clerk for the past 48 years and City Treasurer for 10 years, a position he still holds. He was City Assessor for 15 years. He is also a member of the Knights of Columbus and a past president of the Loyal Rotary Club.

The couple has three children, Ronald and James of Menasha, and Mrs. Gerald (Juliann) Zettler of Loyal. They have 15 grandchildren.

Guests attended the occasion from Menasha, Appleton, Loyal, Greenwood, Spencer, Marshfield, Minneapolis, Madison, Oshkosh, Pulaski, Algoma, Neillsville, Berlin, Stanley, Stevens Point and Menomonie.

Bio: Fish, Dr. R. W. – Joins Loyal Veterinary Service (Jul 1979)

Dr. R. W. Fish, Route 1, Granton, has recently joined the Loyal Veterinary Service staff. Dr. Fish practice and lived at Cedarburg, Wisconsin for many years prior to moving to Granton this spring.

A longtime producer of register Hampshire sheep, the Fish family is expanding this operation in Granton under the guidance of his son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Cathy Fish. The former Herman Scheel farm is the residence of Doc and his wife, Sally, plus sons, Doug, a junior at UW-River Falls, and J.C., a senior at Granton High School. Bill and Cathy are close by on the Dick Thiede place.

In order to better serve their client in the Granton area, the Loyal Veterinary Service has installed an enterprise phone, Fish said. The number is Enterprise 8888.
