Milton, Elmo P. (1902 - 1983)

Masonic funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, July 21, 1983, at Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, for Elmo P. (Red) Milton, 80, of Neillsville, Clark County, who died at 5:45 a.m., Monday, July 18, 1983, at the Augusta Nursing Home in Augusta. Wayne Grap of Neillsville will conduct the services and burial will follow in the Neillsville Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday until the time of services.

Elmo Milton was born on Sept. 19, 1902, in the Town of Pine Valley to George F. and Luella (Paulus) Milton. He received his education at a Township of Pine Valley school. As a young man he apprenticed as a pipe fitter and became a journeyman in 1922, joining the pipefitting union in Chicago. He then worked in Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky. During World War II, he worked at military installations in West Texas. In the 1950's he owned and operated a wrecking yard in Loyal.

In the years that followed, he lived in Neillsville and was active in community service organizations. He was a member of many Masonic Orders and was a Shriner and recently served as Potentates personal ambassador. He was proud of his achievements with the Shriner's cripple children's hospitals and spent much of his time and efforts so that all children could receive the benefits of the excellent medical care. He had been at the Augusta Nursing Home the past several months because of failing health.

He was a member of Neillsville Lodge No. 163, Free and Accepted Masons, Carmi Chapter No. 60, Order of the Eastern Star, the Tripoli Shrine of Milwaukee, the Loyal Order of the Moose, Elks Lodge No. 665, and Local No. 597, Plumbing and Pipe Fitters.

Surviving is a brother, James, Neillsville and several nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Leslie, Harry and Thorton and one sister, Sylvia, preceded him in death.
