Schmitt, Mabel (1938 - 2002)


GRANTON - Mabel "Mema" Schmitt, age 64, of W2106 Star Rd., Granton, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, Feb. 9, 2002, at her home.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the Hansen Funeral Home. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tim Schmidt, Rick, Barry and Brad Schmitt, Denny Schnabel and Tom Phipps.

Friends were invited to call from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 12 and from 10 a.m. until service time Feb. 13 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Schmitt was born Jan. 6, 1938, in Neillsville, a daughter of Edward and Mildred (Baird) Meyer. She graduated from Purdy High School. On April 11, 1964, in Galena, Ill., she was married to Neil Schmitt.

Mabel worked at various jobs and was currently employed by Lynn Dairy. She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren. "Mema" as she was called by her grandchildren, especially enjoyed playing board games with them. Mabel also enjoyed quiet time to read or work crossword puzzles.

Beside her mother, Mildred Meyer of Marshfield, Mabel is lovingly survived by her children, Tim (Ana) Schmidt of the town of Lynn, Rick Schmitt of Marshfield, Tina (Denny) Schnabel of Neillsville, Barry (Tonya) Schmitt of Lindsey, Brad (Jodie) Schmitt of Spencer, Robin (Tom) Schmitt of Granton 15 grandchildren and two brothers, James (Violet) Meyer of Marshfield and Edwin Meyer of Marshfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil, on Feb. 10, 1992 and by her father, Edward Meyer.
