Lillian J. Grum Smith, 73, Stoughton, died on Thursday, March 21, 2002, at the home of her son in Somers. A private burial will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery on Thursday, March 28. The family will receive friends at the Goeke home after 6 p.m.

Lillian "Lil" J. Grum was born on July 4, 1928, in Waukegan, Ill., to Anton and Josephine (nee Slovnik) Grum. She was raised and educated in Waukegan, Ill., Withee and Greenwood, Clark County. She graduated from high school in 1945, and later from Madison Area Technical College with an associate's degree in nursing. She lived on a dairy farm in Wisconsin and on various naval bases in Great Lakes, Ill., San Diego, Calif., Kodiak, Ala., Memphis, Tenn., Iwakuni, Japan, and finally in Stoughton. Her interests included spending time with her family, reading, visiting on the farm, cooking and baking for family and friends, history and films.

Survivors include one son, William (Carol) Stafford, Somers one daughter, Joy Ann Smith, Madison one granddaughter, Sarah (Ryan) Danielson one grandson, Kevin Stafford three great-grand-daughters one great-grandson one brother, Richard A. Grum, Stoughton one sister, Phyllis (Harvey) Goeke, Greenwood two aunts, Mary Ryan and Stefani Ryoti and cousins and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
