Moffatt, Alden R. (27 JUL 1836 - 11 FEB 1888)

Died, near Hewettville, Clark County, Wis., Feb. 11, 1888, Mr. Alden R. Moffatt, aged 51 years, 7 months, and 15 days.

He was born in Canada, and moved to Hartford, Wis., at the age of 12. In 1862 he was married to Miss Ellen Anderson, of Hartford. At an early day he came to Clark County. For many years he lived in Neillsville, engaging in business with great zeal and success. Some two years ago he moved to the country for the second time, settling on a new farm which he, with the assistance of his two sons, greatly improved. A comfortable house is recently completed. He had four children, Emma, Willie, Eugene and Sarah. He was regarded by all as an honest, honorable and industrious citizen and neighbor.

His sickness was brief and his death very sudden. The funeral was attended from the Presbyterian Church of Neillsville, on Tuesday of last week, Rev. W.T. Hendren officiating. A brother of Mr. Moffatt and also a brother of Mrs. Moffatt, came from Hartford, Wis., to attend the funeral. They remained with the afflicted family nearly a week for their comfort and consolation. Then one after another departed.
