Zettler, Irene C. (11 JUL 1920 - 2 MAY 2002)

 

Irene C. Zettler, 81, of 505 E. Forest St., died at 1:20 p.m. May 2, 2002, at her residence.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshfield with Rev. Mark A. Krueger, pastor, officiating. Music will be provided by Bruce Jensema, organist for congregational singing.

Private committal services will be at Hillside Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Lee and Marc Zettler, Nathan Walker, Leo Starr, Merlin Nevala, and Marvin Verkuilen.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Rembs/Kundinger Funeral Home and from 1:30 p.m. until service time Sunday at the church.

She was born July 11, 1920, in Thorp to Henry Sr. and Ella (nee Borck) Coates. She married Harvey A. Settler on Aug. 2, 1947, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Marshfield.

Irene graduated from Thorp High School in 1937. She was employed at Blue Moon Foods in Thorp. Following her marriage to Harvey, the couple resided in Marshfield where she worked at the Woolworth Store for a couple of years. Irene then worked at Distributor's Warehouse for seven years until her retirement in 1976. The couple then moved to Woodruff for five years before returning to the area. Irene loved people and she especially loved baking things for her grandchildren. She enjoyed polka music and word-search puzzles. She will be remembered for the way she cleaned and kept her house.

Irene was a long-time member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, a member of the ladies' aid and a money counter at church. She also did volunteer work at St. Joseph's Hospital and at the Marshfield Food Pantry.

She is survived by her children, Pondri (Norbert) Lewis of Loyal Marsha (fianc Leo Starr) Walker of Shoreview, Minn., Jane Zettler of Marshfield and Jay (Janice) Zettler of Marshfield two stepdaughters, Eunice (Clyde) Radlinger of Los Angeles, Calif., and Beatrice (Gordon) Krueger of Guthrie, Okla. 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and her sister, Ruby Verkuilen of Thorp.

She was predeceased by her husband on Feb. 23, 1994 her parents, a sister, Marge Badzinski and a brother, Henry Coates Jr.
