Fricke, William (1820 - 17 FEB 1897)


William C. Fricke, Sr., died at his residence four miles south of Greenwood, Clark County, Wednesday morning at two o'clock, Feb. 17, 1897, on his 77th birthday.

Mr. Fricke was born in Diepolz Hanover, Germany. He took an active part in the German revolution of 1848 and emigrated to America in 1849, coming to Milwaukee, where he worked at his trade of shoemaking for a year, when he settled in Newburg, Washington County, this state. At this place he resided until 1855, when he emigrated to Waco, Texas. At this place he resided two years and later moved back to Newburg, Wis. On Oct. 18, 1876, he came to Clark County, purchasing a farm in the town of Eaton.

Mr. Fricke was of sterling qualities, upright and honest and withal a good citizen, who will be greatly missed in the community in which he has so long resided.

He leaves an aged wife and eight children, Mrs. Frank Zetsche, town of Eaton Mrs. Minnie Lowe and Mrs. Charles Servaty, of Neillsville Oscar Fricke, of Greenwood Mrs. Tillie Bashlin, town of Eaton Wm. F. Fricke, Billings, Mont. Misses Louisa and Bertha Fricke, of Eaton.
