Thompson, Charles W. (22 August 1874 - 4 November 1967)

Word has been received in Neillsville by relatives of the death of Charles W. Thompson, 93, formerly of the Town of York and Neillsville areas, November 4, in the Granada Hills Rest Home. Funeral services were held November 7 from Mission Hills Chapel. Burial was made in Montecito Cemetery, San Bernardino, Cal.

Pallbearers were Albert Isabelle, James Brady and four grandsons, Michael J. Brady, Jack and Bobbie Thompson, and Maj. William Penn.

Mr. Thompson was born August 22, 1874, in Tamen, Sweden. He came to America in 1892 and located in Chicago, Ill., where he worked in the building trades. He was married in January, 1897, to the former Cornelia Nelson, also a native of Sweden.

The Thompson family moved to the Town of Levis in 1908, where he operated the Albert Hanks farm for several years. They later moved to the Town of York, where they purchased the Joe Lastofka farm in 1917. In 1937, the family moved to Neillsville. In addition to farming, Mr. Thompson continued off and on in his trade, while his wife and family operated the farm. He helped organize and build the former Neillsville Milk Pool plant, Neillsville garage and the water tower. During the war years he rebuilt several army camps throughout Wisconsin and Illinois. He also was instrumental in installing sewage systems in various towns.

In 1941, the family moved to Pine River, where they live with their son, Oscar, and his family and helped on his farm. In 1957, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson moved to California, where they made their home with their daughter, Mrs. Richard L. Brady and family. Mr. Thompson’s health began to fail bout two and one-half years ago and shortly thereafter he entered the rest home.

He is survived by his wife and the following children: Charles A. of Chicago, Ill., Oscar of Pine River, Phillip of San Bernardino, Cal., Harry of Englewood, Cal., Harold of Miami, Fla., Roy of Springfield, Ill., Alvin of Manitowoc, Mrs. Harold L. (Edith) Lindblad of Edgebrook, Ill., Mrs. Marshall (Esther) C. Sims of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Frank (Alice) Mazola, Jr., of Neillsville, Mrs. Clarence (Violet) Shaw of Milwaukee and her twin sister, Mrs. Richard L. (Virginia) Brady of Granada Hills, Cal. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
