Thums is a 1973 graduate of Rib Lake High School. He is presently a farmer in the Town of
Greenwood, Rib Lake.

A November 4, 1977 wedding is being planned.

Miss Jecevicus is a 1976 graduate of Colby High School, and is employed by Chiropractic Services, Marshfield. Her fiancé graduated from Colby High School in 1975, and works at AMPI in Abbotsford.

A September wedding is being planned.

Umlauft, Renee Ann (13 Aug 1977)

Renee Ann Umlauft, Route 1, Stetsonville, and Jim Herbert Laher, Medford, were married Saturday, August 13, 1977 during a 12:30 p.m. ceremony at St. Louis Catholic Church, Dorchester. The Rev. James F. Schaefer performed the ceremony for the children of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Umlauft, Route 1, Stetsonville, and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Laher, Medford.

Parents of the bride escorted their daughter down the aisle. She wore a candlelight dress featuring a high neckline with an empire waistline and an attached sweeping train. The gown was accented with re-embroidered Chantilly lace and iridescent sequins. Her long mantilla veil was edged with matching lace. She carried a cascade of large yellow chrysanthemums and yellow pompons with a green heather leaf.

Diane Holmes, Medford, was maid of honor. Julie Umlauft, Stetsonville, Mary Schraufnagel, Colby, Lois Waldhart, Medford, and Mrs. Lou Luedtke, Schofield, were attendants. They wore floral mint green dresses with a slightly gathered empire waist and stand up collar. Each wore a wide brimmed hat and carried a colonial bouquet of soft green, orange and white carnations with baby‘s breath.

Heidi Geisel, niece of the bridegroom, Sturgeon Bay, was flower girl. Douglas Hoeper, Rothschild, nephew of the bride, was ring bearer.

Attending the bridegroom as best man was Wayne Laher, Medford. Steve Pernsteiner, Medford, Rod Umlauft, Stetsonville, Ron Waldhart, Medford, and Lloyd Luedtke, Schofield, were groomsmen. Duane Umlauft, Sherwood and Bernard Geisel, Sturgeon Bay, completed the wedding party as ushers.

A reception, supper and dance followed at Dorchester Memorial Hall.

The bride is a 1977 graduate of Colby High School. The bridegroom is a 1975 graduate of Medford Senior High School, and is employed at Oxford Structures, Wisconsin Rapids. They will live in Medford following a wedding trip.

Bodo Bartsch, 16, will be attending Abbotsford High School this year as an exchange student. He notes that there are many differences between German schools and U.S. schools. A native of West Germany, he stated American schools are easier.

Ross Prior, a recent graduate of Michigan State University, recently went into practice with Dr. Gaulke in Colby. Ross, 24, graduated from the Veterinarian program at Michigan State in six years. His home town is Fenton Michigan, and he is presently living in Colby.

News: Colby Scouts Take Long Bike Trip (Aug 1977)

Seven members of Troop 683, Colby, completed a 135-mile bike trip August 27-28, 1977.

The scouts stayed overnight at the Sandhill game demonstration area near Baraboo.

Scouts making the trip were Jim Kunick, Dan and Bill Bartnik, Steve Seidel, Larry Frane, Tom Pietrowski and Keith Zygowicz. Donald Pietrowski drove the equipment down for the boys.

Bio: Merwin – Family Reunion (28 Aug 1977)

The 40th annual Merwin family reunion was held August 28, 1977 at Cherokee Park. About 50 relatives attended.

After a picnic dinner, a business meeting was held, with President Elmer Frane presiding. Secretary and treasury reports were read and approved. The birthday song was sang for Ina Hennlich.

Reports were given on births, deaths, marriages, and other items of interest by the head of each family.

Ne officers elected were Llewellyn Loucks, president; Gilbert Merwin, vice-president; Debbie Loucks, secretary, and Archie Merwin, treasurer.

The next reunion will be held August 20, 1978 at Oak Island, Wausau.
