Weix, Cecelia M. (7 JAN 1877 - 30 OCT 1963)

Funeral services for Mrs. Joseph Weix, 86, of Colby, were held Saturday, Nov. 2 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Colby. Her death occurred Oct. 30, 1963 at Langlade Memorial Hospital, Antigo, following a heart attack. She had been with a son there.

The Rev. Michael Braun of Rothschild, a grandson of Mrs. Weix, officiated at the solemn high mass, assisted by the Rev. Gabriel Hinkes of Madison and the Rev. George Budde of Hales Corners, both nephews.

Pallbearers were all grandsons, David Braun, Floyd Braun, Peter Steinwand, Tomas Weix, Emil Joe Weix and James Dunawa. Interment was made in St. Mary's Cemetery.

A parish rosary services was held the night before the services.

The Lulloff Funeral Home of Colby was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Weix, the former Cecelia Marie Hinkes, was born at LeRoy, Wis., Jan. 7, 1877. She was educated at public schools at LeRoy, and in 1897, was married to Joseph Weix there.

After their marriage, the couple operated a store at Cherokee in western Marathon County, and later they started the Umhoefer and Weix Lumber Co. at Colby. Her husband was also active in the canning business, was an alderman of Colby, Marathon Co. supervisor for 20 years, and assemblyman from this district in the early 1920's.

Mrs. Weix was a charter member of the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters, Christian Mothers, and a member of the Altar Society of the parish.

She is survived by two sons and four daughters, Verena Steinwand, Colby; Celia Braun of Athens, Emil Weix of Merrill, Elizabeth Gorrow of Madison; Adele Grambort of Ashland, and Joseph Weix of Antigo. There are 28 grandchildren and 68 great grandchildren.

A sister, Mrs. Ella Hoffman of Green Bay, is also living.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Friends and relatives from out of town attending came from North Lake, Ill., Green Bay, Madison, Ashland, Merrill, Athens, Antigo, Oconomowoc, Beaver Dam, Mayville, Oshkosh, Lena, Kaukauna, Waukesha, LeRoy, Marshfield, Lake Tomahawk, Wausau, Medford, Owen, Milwaukee, Schofield and Stevens Point.
