Lis, Letty (Filipiak) Koolmo (March 19, 1921 - June 15, 2009)  

 

Letty Lis, 88, Rhinelander, died Monday, June 15 at Friendly Village Nursing Home in Rhinelander.  

 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 20 at 1 p.m. at Gilman Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from noon until the time of the service. 

 

The former Letty Filipiak was born March 19, 1921 to the late Peter and Ellen (Filipiak. She grew up in the Gilman area and attended area schools. 

 

On October 21, 1944 in Aniston, Ala., she married Lawrence Wendell Koolmo, who preceded her in death in 1965. They moved to Gilman where they owned and operated Koolmo's Club and Ballroom.  

 

She later married Alois Lis, who survives, and they lived in Rhinelander. 

 

She enjoyed traveling. 

 

In addition to her second husband, survivors include two daughters, Carol (Greg) Swatzina of Baldwin and Alice (Michael) Sime of Hudson; three stepchildren, Chris (Len) Meinders of Spencer, Brad (Sara) Lis of Minneapolis, Minn., and Kurt (Tina) Lis of Wausau; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

 

In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Tony Filipiak and Joseph Phillips; and a granddaughter, Kari Swatzina. 

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer's Association.
