Brown, Catherine A. (February 7, 1910 - September 5, 2008)

Catherine A. Brown, 98, Crofton, Md., died Friday, Sept. 5 at Sacred Heart Home in Hyattsville, Md., of natural causes.

A memorial service will be held in Waukesha at a later date.

The former Catherine Gengler was born February 7, 1910 in Medford to the late Anton and Kate (Bodewin) Gengler.

She was the oldest of seven children. In 1928 she worked as a domestic in Milwaukee.

She returned to Medford and in 1935 married Joseph "Joe" Neder, who preceded her in death.

In 1954, she moved with four of her children to Mooseheart, Ill., where she lived and worked for nine years until her marriage to Martin Brown, who preceded her in death, in 1963.

She lived in West Chicago, Ill., until 1988 then moved to Crofton to be near her children and grandchildren.

She enjoyed spoiling grandchildren, playing cards, traveling and visiting with family and friends, and was active in a prayer group at her church. She admired Mother Teresa of Calcutta and read about her life and missionary work.

Survivors include her children, David of Wisconsin, Ronald and Charles of California, Mary (Lindsay) Ervin of Maryland and Paul (Karen) of Illinois; a brother Eugene of Wisconsin; a sister, Isabel Sigmund of Wisconsin; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Theresa Zeman and Dolores Sigmund; two brothers, Anthony and Matthew; a grandson, Christopher Neder; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Neder.
