Steen, Leona H. (6 May 1910 – 2 July 1992)

RIB LAKE – Leona H. Steen, 82, Rib Lake, died Thursday at her home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rib Lake, with the Rev. John Meyer officiating.

Visitation will be at Dallmann Funeral Home, Rib Lake, after 4 p.m. Sunday and then at the church from 10 a.m. until service time Monday. Burial will be at Lake View Cemetery, Rib Lake.

She was born May 6, 1910, in the town of Greenwood, Taylor County, to the late Albert and Minnie (Jarchow) Smedegard. She attended Green Grove School.

After her schooling, she married John Steen Oct. 6, 1926, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in the town of Greenwood until moving to Rib Lake in 1945. She and her husband worked for the Rib Lake Cheese Factory until it closed, moving with the cheese company in 1949 to Portage and working there until 1964. After returning to Rib Lake, she worked for Gem Products until retiring in 1972.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Ethel (Edward) Ziemke of Rib Lake and Arlene (Herbert) Wiensch of Glendale, Ariz.; one son, Gilbert of Tripoli; three half-brothers, Lyle Smedegard of Chelsea, James Smedegard of Superior, and Kenneth Smedegard of Texas; two half-sisters, Celia (Clarence) Leischer and Merle (Ernest) Tervi, both of Westboro; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, one daughter, Hazel; one infant great-granddaughter, Jassmine Steen, and two half-sisters, Hazel Wuetrich and Verna Wascek.
