Eggert, Elmer "Al" Albert (November 15, 1920 - January 9, 2011)

Elmer "Al" Albert Eggert, 90, Rib Lake, died Sunday, Jan. 9 at Golden Living Center in Rib Lake, while under hospice and palliative care.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 12 at Rib Lake United Methodist Church, with Pastor Dick Hartlerode officiating. Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery in Rib Lake with full military honors conducted by the Lehman-Clendenning American Legion Post No. 274.

Active pallbearers were Tony Schmittfranz, AJ Schmittfranz, Lee Johnson, Jessica Hoefferle-Pliska, Ashley Boehlen and Doug Boehlen. Honorary pallbearers were Steve Johnson, Theresa Muecke, Jeanna Hoefferle and Allison Hoefferle.


Elmer Eggert was born on November 15, 1920 in St. Croix County to the late Charles Julius and Teetje (DeBoer) Eggert. He attended High Landing Grade School and was a 1941 graduate of Union Free High School in Clear Lake. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. In 1947 he moved to Rib Lake where he co-owned a bar with his brother, Don.


On October 8, 1949 at St. John Lutheran Church in Rib Lake, he married Delores Glenzer, who preceded him in death in 1978.

They moved to Milwaukee and to Goodrich, then back to Rib Lake. He farmed from 1952 until 1962 and drove milk truck, was employed by the Village of Rib Lake from 1962 until 1965, and at Weather Shield for 19 years as a line operator as well as a semi truck driver, retiring in 1986.

On April 26, 1980 at St. John Lutheran Church in Rib Lake, he married Irma (Ruoff) Braaten, who preceded him in death on February 17, 2008.


He was a member of Rib Lake United Methodist Church, Lehman-Clendenning American Legion Post No. 274, Rib Lake area dartball, pool and bowling leagues, and was a past member of Rib Lake horseshoe league. He enjoyed baseball, football and horseshoes.


Survivors include three daughters, Linda (James) Schmittfranz and Donna (Donald) Hoefferle, both of Rib Lake, and Janice (Donald) Johnson of Superior; a son, Rodney (Jeanette) of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.


In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn Eggert in 1970; three brothers, Lorne (Violet), Donald and Melvin; and a sister, Augusta (Art) Semph.

Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
