Gibeaut, Obed “Obie” (3 January 1930 – 19 June 2009) With Flag

 

Obed C. “Obie” Gibeaut, 79, of Black River Falls died Friday, June 19, 2009, in Pine View Care Center, Black River Falls.

 

Obed C. Gibeaut was born Jan. 3, 1930, in Richland County to Arthur and Mary (Peterson) Gibeaut.  He was raised in Baraboo.

 

From 1949 – 1950, Obie served in the U. S. Air Force.  He married Fern Butterfuss Oct. 28, 1950, in Baraboo.  The couple first lived in Beloit and then, from 1968 to 1970, in St. Petersburg, FL.  They later settled in the Black River Falls area.

 

Obie was employed as an automotive mechanic.  He was employed first at Burnham Motors in Beloit and later at Joel Bement Chrysler Products, Millis Transfer and Waughtal Implement, all of Black River Falls.  He retired at the age of 62 and then became employed in the parts department of Bar-B Travel Plaza.  He had also been employed by the Town of Brockway.

 

He enjoyed fishing.

 

Survivors include his wife, Fern of Black River Falls; a godson, Greg Wood of Waupun; a sister, Lorraine Sorok of St. Petersburg, FL; a brother, Edgar (JoEllen) Gibeaut of Park Falls; and many other relatives and friends.

 

In accordance with Obed’s wishes, there was no visitation. Graveside services, with military honors by Thompson-RedCloud VFW Post 1959 and Miles-Hagen American Legion Post 200, were held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2009, at Brookside Cemetery at Millston.

 

The Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls, assisted the family with arrangements.
