Olson, Agátha V. (26 July 1935 – 6 April 2010)

 

Agátha “Gay” V. Olson, 74, of Black River Falls died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, in Black River Memorial Hospital, Black River Falls, under the care of Black River Memorial Hospice.

 

Gay was born July 26, 1935, in Black River Falls to Arthur and Valborg (Nessett) Hagen.  She graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1953.

 

She married Dale “Mickey” R. Olson March 29, 1953, in Waukon, IA. The couple first lived in Jackson, MI, for 15 years before returning to Black River Falls.  The couple spent winter months in Mission, TX, for the past 27 years.

 

Gay and Mickey operated the Northside Grocery of Black River Falls and owned and operated the Thunderbird Recreation Center in Hatfield, where she operated the ticket booth at the Thunderbird Roller Rink and the Thunderbird Store.  She also had been employed at Hardee’s of Black River Falls on a part-time basis.

 

She was raised in the Lutheran faith.  She enjoyed reading, watching soap operas and walking.

 

Survivors include her husband, Mickey Olson; two sons, Gary R. Olson of Onalaska and Larry A. (Carmen) Olson of Hatfield; three grandchildren, Melanie A. Tobin, Joshua A. (Angie) Olson and Jessica L. (Shane) Peterson; two great-grandchildren, Dylan S. Ramey and Parker A. Olson; two step-great-grandchildren, Hannah Peterson and Nickolas Peterson; a sister, Paulene “Polly” Holmgreen of Black River Falls; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

 

Gay was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Valborg Hagen; two sisters, Dorothy Koran and Doris McClain; and two brothers, John “Jack” Hagen and Kerwood Hagen.

 

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2010, from the Parkview Church, and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, both in Black River Falls.

 

Family and friends are invited for visitation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 8, at the Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the Parkview Church.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be given to Black River Memorial Hospice, 711 W. Adams, Black River Falls, WI 54615 or Interfaith Caregivers, P. O. Box 354, Black River Falls, WI 54615.
