Mary Etten (29 Sep 1878 – 31 Mar 1949)

The Rev. Father Philip T. Weller officiated at a Requiem High Mass in St. Louis Catholic Church here at 9 AM Monday for Mrs. Albert Etten, 70, who died Thursday. Interment was in Sacred Heart parish cemetery at Stetsonville, and pallbearers were George Platteter of Stetsonville; Joe Dessel, John Streit, William Grinker, Charles Grinker, and August Sauter, all of Dorchester. Arrangements were in charge of Fuchsgruber Funeral Service.

Mrs. Etten entered St Joseph’s hospital at Marshfield March 27 for medical treatment, but her condition became worse during last week, and she died in the hospital at 8:15 PM Thursday, March 31.
Mary Vande Voort was born at Greenleaf, Sept. 29, 1878, was reared and educated there, and married to Albert Etten at Wrightstown on Nov. 26, 1902. She and Mr. Etten settled on a farm in the Town of Little Black immediately after their marriage, and resided there until moving to the village in March of 1939, at which time their son Lawrence assumed operation of the home farm.

Mrs. Etten was a member of the Christian Mothers Society of St. Louis Catholic Church here, and of St. Elizabeth’s Altar Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus church at Stetsonville.

Survivors include her widower; four daughters, Mrs. Edward (Veronica) Gius, Mrs. Leo (Flavia) Streit, and Mrs. Merlin (Erma) Platteter, all of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Leo (Marie) Schober, Adrian, Mich.; and two sons, Lawrence Etten, of this community, and Alvin Etten. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren; two brothers, Jake Vande Voort, Greenleaf, and Nicholas Vande Voort, Green Bay, and a sister, Sister Mary Flavia, St Francis Convent, at St Francis.

A daughter, Angeline, preceded her in death, as have a brother, John, and three sisters, Ann Vande Voort, Mrs. Louise Rotzenberg, and Sister Mary Domitilla.

Relatives who attended funeral services included Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gius, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Streit, Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Platteter, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Thomas all of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Etten and family, Dorchester; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Schober, Adrian, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Jake Vande Voort, Greenleaf; Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Vande Voort, Green Bay; Mrs. John Vande Voort and children, Kennan; Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Etten, Appleton, and several nieces and nephews from out-of-town.
