Darryl Mertens (31 Aug 1938 – 20 May 1996)

Darryl John “Buck” Mertens, 57, of Dorchester, died Monday, May 20, at St Joseph Hospital Hospice in Marshfield. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 23, at St Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester with Rev. James Schaefer officiating.

Burial was held in the Dorchester Memorial Cemetery in Dorchester, Pallbearers were John, Greg, Kurt, and Jeff Mertens, Russ and David Sebold, Todd and David Weis. Steve Rhyner was an honorary pallbearer.

Visitation and a Rosary service were held at Dallmann funeral Home in Medford.

Darryl J. Mertens was born August 31, 1938, at St Jospeh’s Hospital in Marshfield, to John and Echo (Krakenberger) Mertens. He was raised in Dorchester and attended St Louis Catholic School there. His marriage to Adrianne (Ann) Bouche took place on November 7, 1964, in Bakerville.

He drove truck with his father for Mertens Transit for over 20 years. He then owned and operated Anco Trucking Service. He retired in January due to ill health. He enjoyed hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Adrianne; his mother, Echo (Pete) Anderson of Birchwood; his parents-in-law, Adrian and Caroline Bouche of Marshfield; a daughter, Theresa (Michael) Robotka of Birchwood; a son, Brian (Lyn) Mertens of Medford; four brothers, John (Ginny) and Kurt (Kathy). Both of Colby, Greg (Dolly) of New Berlin, and Jeff (Patty) of Rice Lake; one sister Cindi (Greg) Robotka of Birchwood; and six grandchildren, Krista, Miranda, and Brandon Mertens, and Janell, Andrea, and Joel Robotka.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, John; and two sisters, Janie and Corrine.
