Thiemann, Hedwig (9 Aug. 1905 - 2 Mar. 2000)

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Sister M. Eltrudis Thiemann, 94, of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at St. Francis Convent, Springfield, Ill.

Sister M. Eltrudis, the former Hedwig Thiemann, was born Aug. 9, 1905, in Langenbielan, Silesia, Germany, the daughter of Herman and Emma Grenlich Thiemann. She entered the congregation on May 28, 1931, and professed her religious vows on May 3, 1934.

Sister performed domestic tasks at hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin. She served at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chippewa Falls, from 1958 until 1982. She moved to the Motherhouse due to failing health in 1982.

She is survived by: one brother, Joseph Thiemann of Germany; one sister, Gertrud Polzer of Germany; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Father John Ostdiek, OFM will celebrate the Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial on Monday, March 6 at St. Francis of Assisi Church at the Motherhouse. Burial will be in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 5 at the Motherhouse with a wake service to be held at 4 p.m.

Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
