Schaefer, Bernice Anna (Marriage - 30 June 1945)

St. Thomas Catholic church in Milan was the scene, Saturday morning, June 30, of a pretty wedding, when Miss Bernice Ann Schaefer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Werner C. Schaefer, town of Holton, and Maj. Joseph L. Burger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Burger, town of Wien, were united in marriage by the Rev. Raymond Schultz. The bride’s mother, who has been church organist for many years, played the wedding marches and the accompaniment for the choir for the nuptial high mass at 9:00 o’clock.

The bride, who was presented in marriage by her father, wore an entrained gown of white satin and net and a finger-tip veil caught to a Juliet cap headdress. She carried pink roses and white carnations.

Mrs. Irvin Bouse, Cicero, Ill., who attended her sister as maid of honor, was gowned in tea rose taffeta and net and wore a tiara headdress with shoulder length circular veil. Both bridesmaids, the Misses Christine and Agnes Burger, sisters of the bridegroom, wore identically styled gowns in blue taffeta and net and completed their attire with Juliet caps of blue net. The three carried sheafs of gladioli, snapdragons and carnations.

George Burger, town of Wien, was his brother’s best man and ushers for the ceremony were Werner and Leslie Schaefer, brothers of the bride.

Two little flower girls, Janice Burger, sister of the bridegroom, and her cousin, Carmen Ellenbecker, were dressed in white organdy and carried colonial bouquets of mixed flowers.

Following a noon dinner at the home of the bride’s parents, to which more than 100 guests had been invited, an informal reception was held throughout the afternoon. Large, white wedding bells, streamers of white, pink and blue and a profusion of garden flowers decorated the home. In the evening the event was celebrated at a wedding dance at the Trianon Gardens.

The couple will visit relatives at various points in the state before departing for Miami, Fla., where the bridegroom is stationed. He is now home on a 30-day leave.

Among the guests at the wedding of Major and Mrs. Burger, were:
