Schmidt, Gertrude M. (Barts) Bungert (October 12, 1921 - May 20, 2011)

Gertrude M. Bungert Schmidt, 89, Abbotsford, formerly of Wausau, died Friday, May 20, 2011, at Continental Manor, Abbotsford.

She was born October 12, 1921, in Colby, daughter of the late Harvey and Anna Barts.

In 1940, she married Harry Bungert of Marathon who died May 20, 1968.

She married Earl Schmidt of Wausau in 1973, and he died June 15, 2008.

Gertrude is survived by daughters, Pat (Dale) Augustine, Athens and Jean (Jim) Kioski, Superior; grandchildren, Terri (Dave) Walpole, Superior and Tracy Augustine, Wausau; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Evan, Kade, and Erin Walpole, Superior, Zakkary and Tylar Augustine, Wausau; sisters, Lydia (Art) Weideman and Madeline Schreiber, both of Abbotsford; sister-in-law, Lorraine (Jim) Luetschwager, Athens; stepdaughter, Judy Schmidt, Appleton; son-in-law, David Howard, Wausau; grandchildren, Susan (Randy) Hahn and Jeff Howard, Wausau; great-grandson, David J. Howard, Wausau; sister-in-law, Elvera Krueger, Wausau.

Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law, Harvey Jr. and Mabel Barts, brother-in-law, Ken Schreiber, step-daughter, Erlyne (Dave) Howard and grandson, John Howard.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, town of Hamburg. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery, Marathon.

Pallbearers for the service will be Tracy Augustine, Zakk Augustine, Ethan Walpole, Allen Schreiber, Frank Schreiber and Jerry Weideman.

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation and thank you to Golden Livingcenter-Continental Manor, Abbotsford, for their wonderful compassionate care and love given to Gert and her family.
