Herman Wilke (16 Aug 1888 - 25 Apr 1957)

Funeral services for Herman Wilke, 68, were held Sunday from St. Peter's Lutheran Church here (Dorchester. Clark Co., WI). The Rev. F. H. Sprengler, pastor, officiated at the rites at 2 p. m. A niece, Miss Alice Tauchen, sang "Asleep in Jesus" and "Be Still my Soul", during the services. Miss Shirley Sprengler was organist and accompanied the soloist.

Interment was in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery with nephews serving as pallbearers: Albert and Clarence Schultz, Norman Wilke, Marvin Tauchen, Wayne Bruesewitz, and Elmer Ruprich. Fuchsgruber Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements, and the deceased lay in state at the local funeral parlors Saturday afternoon.

Mr. Wilke, who had been in ill health for some time, died at his home here last Thursday, April 25, 1957 at 4:30 p. m.

Herman August Frederick Wilke was born August 16, 1888, in Germany. He attended the Hilltop School in the Town of Mayville. His marriage to Anna Wolf took place at St. Peter's Church here on June 2, 1914. He farmed northwest of the village for thirty-six years, retiring in 1946, and moving to this village where he has resided since.

A former officer of the Dorchester Cooperative Produce Association and the former Hillside Cheese Factory, Mr. Wilke also held offices of St. Peter's Lutheran congregation, of which he was a long time member.

His widow survives, as does a daughter, Mrs. Arthur Sack, Pewaukee. Twin sons preceded him in death: born in 1919, they died the same year. Also surviving are four brothers: Bernard and Richard of Sheboygan, George of Marshfield, and Max of this community. Another brother, Otto, and a sister, Mrs. Paul Schultz, preceded him in death.
