Hunter Mistakes His Friend For A Deer

Thursday of last week, Harry Kyle was shot and instantly killed by Robert Hamilton.

The accident occurred on the Yellow River in Taylor county. A hunting party consisting of H. Liberty, Adam Swan, Harry Kyle and Robert Hamilton had been hunting the locality and had fairly good luck.

Thursday Kyle, Swan and Hamilton were hunting near together, Kyle sat down on a log and removed his cap, Hamilton came along and saw his head. Kyle’s hair being brown he took him for a deer and fired, killing him instantly, the bullet entering his head just above the right ear.

He at once realized his mistake and called to Swan who was a short distance away. When the latter arrived he found Hamilton in a half crazed condition. Repeatedly Hamilton asked Swan to shoot him and end it there.

The body was taken to Stetsonville and on Monday was taken to Colby for burial. The deceased was 22 years old and leaves a wife and one child. He was a grandson of Perry Swan, who died in Abbotsford a few years ago. He was born and raised in Marathon county and he and Hamilton were friends from boyhood.

The only blame that can be attached to Hamilton is that shooting before he was certain and his grief for his hasty act will undoubtedly remain with him while he lives.
