SET FINAL RITES FOR MARIA LIISA RAUHA

Mrs. John (Maria Liisa) Rauha, Owen, died Monday the 1st of June at Victory Memorial Hospital at Stanley.  Her death was attributed to complications of old age.  She was 87 years and seven months of age.

Rev. Lauri Issacson, Pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church, Owen, will conduct funeral services set for Friday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock from the church.  Burial will be made at Riverside cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Voito Mutka, Pentha Puro, Oscar Makkonen, William Kangas, Hjalmer Heikkinen and Sol Laakso.

The deceased came to America in 1899 settling at Negaunee, Michigan.  One year later she was united in marriage to John Rauha.  In 1912 the couple settled on a farm in the Town of Hoard where they farmed for 36 years before retiring to Withee in 1948.  Mr. Rauha passed away in 1953 and the following year she moved to Owen.

Mrs. Rauha was a charter member of Bethany Lutheran Church and the parish’s ladies aid society.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Einar (Ina) Laakso, Owen; five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters and three grandchildren.
