PLAN SERVICES FRIDAY FOR JOHN NIEMI, 87

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon, Friday, March 6 from Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Longwood, for John Niemi, a former resident of the Town of Longwood for 41 years. He passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lillian Rossow at Loyal, where he had made his home for the past 11 years. On March 3, death was due to complications of old age. He had attained the age of 87 years, seven months and five days.

Rev. Arvid Myhrwold will conduct the final rites. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Those serving as pallbearers will be Olaf Ystad, William Niemi, Richard Hahto, Sherman Gosse, Ted Piekola and William Kangas.

Born in Finland on June 24, 1876, John Niemi came to this country when 22 years of age in 1898 obtaining employment in Waukegan, Illinois. It was here on January 30, 1903, he married the former Marie Saari. Nine years later they moved to Clark county settling on a farm in the Town of Longwood. His wife passed away shortly thereafter on March 3, 1919. He continued to make his home there until his retirement in 1953 at which time he moved to Loyal to reside with his daughter.

He is survived by a son, Jack, of rural Owen; two daughters, Mrs. Francis (Martha) Herr, route 4, Greenwood, and Mrs. Lillian Rossow, Loyal, and three grandchildren.
