Foster, Dr. Martha (25 NOV 1900 - 25 FEB 1965)

The Rev. Bernard T. Kelly, pastor, officiated at services in St. Mary's Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. Monday for Dr. Martha A. Foster, 64, Neillsville (Clark Co., Wis.), and former optometrist, who died in Memorial Hospital Thursday after a lingering illness. Burial was made in the Neillsville Cemetery.

The former Martha Dietsche was born Nov. 25, 1900 at Sand Creek, Wis., and was educated there and at the University of Minnesota. She began practicing as an optometrist at Bloomer in 1921 and was married on Aug. 7, 1923 at Minneapolis to Leo Foster. In 1924 they moved to Black River Falls, where she opened a practice. She also practiced for about a year at West Salem before coming to Neillsville in 1938.

Dr. Foster was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church; the Parish Council of Catholic Women St. Rose's Circle; the Business and Professional Women's Club, of which she was president at the time of her death; the Wilson-Heintz VFW Auxiliary, the Haugen-Richmond Post American Legion Auxiliary; the American Optometric Association, the Wis. Optometric Association, the Neillsville Chamber of Commerce, the Beta Sigma Kappa and the American Optometric Foundation.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Dr. John W. Foster, Neillsville; a sister, Mrs. Theresa Reissinger, Spokane, Wash.; two brothers, Herman Dietsche, New Auburn, and Harold Dietsche, Bloomer; and five grandchildren.
