Hofman, Helen (8 AUG 1964)

Oshkosh will be the home of the new Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Appleyard whose marriage took place Saturday, Aug. 8, 1964.

The 1:30 o'clock ceremony, during which Miss Helen Hofman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hofman of Colby, and Frederick Appleyard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Appleyard of Oshkosh, exchanged their marriage promise, took place at the First United Church of Christ at Colby, with the Rev. carl Serr officiating.

Mrs. Jerome Rankl was the organist and accompanist for Miss Julene Radlinger who sang "Because" and "The Wedding Prayer."

The bride was attired in a floor length gown of acetate lace over taffeta with long pointed sleeves. The square neckline of the molded bodice was trimmed with pleated net detailed with iridescent sequins and pearls. The skirt was accented with ruffles at the back from a fitted waistline. Her fingertip bouffant veil fell from a crown of crystals and pearls. She carried a cascade bouquet of pink garnette roses and stephanotis with roses on white ribbon streamers.

For her matron of honor, the bride chose her sister, Mrs. Faye Grasee of Oshkosh. Her bridesmaids were Barbar Gauger of Oshkosh, sister of the groom, and Mrs. Dorothy Stauske of Athens, cousin of the bride.

They were dressed alike in light blue street length dresses of all nylon designed with square necklines. Two small bows accented the back of the waistline at the top of the panel attached to the controlled pleated skirt. The matron of honor carried a cascade arrangement of all pink carnations and the bridesmaids carried pink and white carnations with blue ribbon trim.

Coming from Oshkosh to serve the groom was Gerald Ruck, best man. Larry Gauger, also of Oshkosh, and Robert Hofman of Milwaukee, a brother of the bride, completed the wedding party.

For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Hofman chose a blue and white street length rayon ensemble. The mother of the groom wore a street length pale blue lace dress with matching jacket. Both mothers had corsages of pink roses.

A corsage of white carnations tied with gold ribbon was presented to the grandmother of the bride.

Festivities following the wedding included a reception at the home of the bride's parents, dinner at the church hall, and a wedding dance at Sportsmen's Park.

About 100 guests came for the wedding from Oshkosh, Athens, Milwaukee, Marshfield, Wausau, Dorchester and Chicago.

The bride, a graduate of Colby High School, attended Oshkosh State College, majoring in medical technology. Her husband is a member of the faculty at the State University at Oshkosh.
