Stieber, Emma A. (7 APR 1895 - 9 JAN 1965)

Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Anna Stieber, 69, Colby, were held Tuesday morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Colby. The Rev. John B. Pinion officiated and burial was made in St. Mary's Parish Cemetery.

Mrs. Stieber died at 6:550 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 1964, in St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, where she had been admitted the previous evening.

Funeral arrangements were attended to by the Lulloff Funeral Home, Colby, where the body lay in state prior to the services. A rosary for Mrs. Stieber was said by the Christian Mothers Society at 8 p.m. Sunday, and a general rosary was said at 8 p.m. Monday.

Pallbearers were all nephews: Phillip Gassner Jr., Leroy Krautkramer, Rudolph Stieber Jr., Jerome Witberler and Lester Volhard, all of Marathon, and Harley Stieber of Wausau.

Emma Stieber was born Emma Gassner on April 7, 1895 at Marathon. In May 1919 she married Roman Stieber, and the couple lived in Marathon until 1928. They lived in Reedsburg for a short time, settling in Colby in 1929. They operated the Stieber Hardware Store and Stieber Locker Service. Mr. Stieber died in 1949.

Mrs. Stieber was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Christian Mother's Society.

Survivors include thee sons, Michael and Joseph of Colby, and David of Friendship; one daughter, Mrs. Joseph (LaVere) Peck of Beloit; two brothers, Phillip and Joseph Gassner of Marathon; three sisters, Mrs. Joseph Krautkramer and Mrs. Edwin Volard, both of Marathon, and Mrs. Joseph Hilber of Milwaukee, and 10 grandchildren.

Those from away who attended the services came from Wauwatosa, Rothschild, Merrill, Wausau, Marathon, Milwaukee, West Allis, Eau Claire, Mosinee, Abbotsford, Haider and Athens.
