Bliss, Elliot Ormal (17 JUL 1833 – 21 Oct  1915)

Elliot Bliss died at his home on 12th Street last Thursday and was buried Sunday afternoon. Services were conducted at the home by Rev. Coleman and interment was made in the Neillsville Cemetery. Elliot Ormal Bliss was born at Essex, Vermont, on July 17, 1833. He went to Ohio with his parents, later removed to Waukegan, Ill., and then to Grant County, Wisconsin. He was united in marriage to Elzora L. Campbell on Aug. 24, 1863. To this union eleven children were born, only one of whom survive their father, she being Mrs. L.G. Masters. There are six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren surviving. In May, 1861, he enlisted in Co. I, 15th, Ill., served three months and then re-enlisted for three years, serving through the war. In 1872 removed to Trempeleau County where he lived for about 14 years and then took up a homestead in Clark County about six miles southwest of this city. He and his family resided there until nine years ago when he bought the James Furlong place in this city and lived there until his demise. He had been practically helpless for the past two years and had been confined to his bed since last February, but had received the best of care and attention from his faithful wife. He was a fine old gentleman and was highly esteemed by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance and friendship. He is survived by his wife and daughter. The funeral services Sunday were attended by a firing squad from Co. A and members of the G.A.R. acted as pall bearers. Mrs. McKinney, sister of Mr. Bliss, Gus Schlender and wife and Jos. Lochman and wife of Columbia; John Campbell, a brother of Mrs. Bliss, and his daughter of Wesley were here for the funeral.
