Speich, Emma (30 JUL 1894 - 27 JAN 1953)

Emma Dorothy (Braun) Speich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Braun, was born in the town of Warner, Clark Co., Wis., on July 20, 1894 and spent her entire life in this area. At the age of five she came with her parents to Greenwood and she received her education in the Greenwood schools.

On Nov. 28, 1918 she was united in marriage to John Speich at the parsonage of the West Side Reformed Church. They operated a farm two miles north of Greenwood until 1940, when they retired and built a new home in this city.

She was a member of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church and its Ladies Aid Society, also the Hemlock Aid and American Legion Auxiliary.

Mrs. Speich suffered a stroke two weeks ago and was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, where she passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1953 at 10:00 p.m. The body was brought to the Stabnow Funeral Home, where it reposed until Saturday, Jan. 30, when services were held at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church at 2:00 p.m. She was laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Koch, pastor, officiated.

During the service the choir sang "In the Garden" and "Some Day We'll Understand," accompanied by Miss Janette Busch at the organ.

The pallbearers were Henry Horn, Ed Braun, Art Horn, H.R. Baird, Ted Braun and Otto Horn.

Mrs. Speich is survived by her husband, two sons, John D., Greenwood and Robert of Wabasha, Minn.; five grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Geo. (Bertha) Buker.
