Lenz, Hugo R. (23 JAN 1879 - 15 FEB 1953)

Hugo Robert Lenz, 74, farmer in the Town of Eaton for the past 45 years, passed away at 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 15, 1953 at Luther Hospital, Eau Claire, Wis. Death was due to complications following surgery. He had been in poor health for several years.

He was born Jan. 23, 1879 at Johnson Creek, Dane County, Wis. He attended the Christian Day School of the Zion Lutheran Church of Columbus, Wis.

On Nov. 11, 1903 he was united in marriage with Ida Lewke of Columbus. They resided on a farm near Columbus for 3 1/2 years before moving to Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.). He took an active part in civic affairs, serving for many years on the Town Board as treasurer and supervisor. He was also director of the Eaton center School Board for 25 years, at which time he retired. He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Greenwood.

The body lay in state at the Schiller Funeral Parlors until 10;00 a.m. Wednesday, when it was taken to the Trinity Lutheran Church. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Walter Schedler at 3:00 p.m. He was laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery.

During the service "Jesus Savior Pilot Me" and "God Be with You till We Meet Again" were sung by Janice Trunseth, Lois Weiher and Robert Weiher. Mrs. Herman Rabska, Withee, was the organist.

The pallbearers were Ed Hillert, Herman Damerow, Elmer Learman, Wm. Schlinsog, George Zuehlke and Elmer Johnson.

Deceased leaves to mourn departure, seven children, two daughters and five sons: Mrs. Louise Warnke, Greenwood; Roy, Arnold and Loren of Oconomowoc; Mrs. Allen (Bethel) Christopherson, Hartford; Wilbur and Donald, Greenwood; nine grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Martha White, Marshall, Wis.; Mrs. Wm. Lewke, Columbus, Wis.; one half-brother, Irving Remus, Marshall; and one step-sister, Ida Sparks, Huron, S.D.

Mrs. Lenz passed away on Jan. 6, 1953.
