Young, Gracia Schofield #2 (1872- 3 MAR 1942)

The death of Gracia Schofield Young in Kansas City, March 3, 1942, came as a shock to friends here. Mrs. J.J. Carter had received a letter from Mrs. Young written February 23rd, in which she wrote in quite detail, about how much she had enjoyed the mild winter. Also about how enjoyable was her life at the home where she was on of 75 women from all walks of life and whom she had found most interesting and congenial. Friends here had heard about her bein the youngest woman in the home when she first joined them some two years ago, also that they considered her a very valuable addition to their “family” because of her musical ability and general versatility and agreeable, cheerful personality.

In her birthday greeting letter to Mrs. Carter, previously referred to, she mentioned having made one Red Cross sweater but added “I cannot do much more because of high blood pressure I have at times.”

Her sister, Allie Pierrelee’s letter received by Mrs. Carter on Tuesday of this week, said Mrs. Young had spent all day Sunday, March 1st in Mrs. Pierrelee’s home and two days later she was taken with a heart attack in which she slept away in a few hours, without a pain or struggle. In accordance with her often expressed wish her body was cremated.

If possible to get here by auto, Mrs. Pierrelee plans to meet her brother Dr. Hugh Schofield in Greenwood for Memorial Day and while they are here, hold a grave service for her which will include burial of her ashes beside her father and mother on the Schofield lot in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Young was 69 years of age. The sympathy of friends here is extended to her brother, Dr. Hugh Schofield and family, her sister Allie Schofield Pierrelee and her two sons Scott and Howard and their families.
