Gruwell, Minnie Arvilla #2 (27 MAY 1868 - 18 NOV 1943)

Mrs. Otto Gruwell, nee Minnie Arvilla Drinkwine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Drinkwine, was born at Plymouth, Wisconsin on May 27, 1868 and passed away at her home in Greenwood at 11:00 p.m. Tuesday November 18, 1943.

On August 1, 1888 she was united in marriage to Otto Gruwell in Merrillan and lived at Thorp for a short time moving onto the old Drinkwine farm 4 ½ miles northwest of Greenwood where she cared for her parents until their deaths, and where they resided until Mr. Gruwell passed away on January 19, 1935, when she and her niece moved to Greenwood.

To this union was born two sons Edward of Oxnard, Calif. and Asa who passed away October 11, 1940. A niece Mae Drinkwine has made her home with them for the past 36 years and has taken care of Mrs. Gruwell during her illness.

Mrs. Gruwell has been in ill health for some time and for the past 18 weeks has been confined to her bed.

She is survived by her son Edward of California. Mae Drinkwine who has made her home with her, 2 grand children, George and Elizabeth Gruwell, a sister Mrs. Viola McMahon, two daughter-in-laws, and a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Friday November 19, at 2 p.m. from the Methodist Church with Rev. A.J. Abbott officiating. Ilene and Irene Abbott sang. She was laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery.

The pallbearers were: John Zimmer, E.L. Mlada, Otto Schwarze, Art Humke, E.L. Ketchpaw and Albert Neuenfeldt.

Those who carried flowers were: Mrs. John Zimmer and daughter Ruth, Mrs. Fred Behrens and Mrs. Albert Neuenfeldt.

Those from away who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Asa Gruwell and son George of Chicago, Mrs. Viola McMahon, Mrs. Otto Gloe and Mr. and Mrs. Quaney of Withee and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Churkey of Owen.
