Westcott, Herbert Artelle (15 MAY 1878 - 21 DEC 1945)

Herbert Artelle Westcott, son of Norman and Eliza Johnson Westcott, was born May 15, 1878 on a farm west of Alma Center. He grew up and went to school in this community. He spent a few years working in Manistee, Mich., but the rest of his life was spent in Wisconsin. He came to Greenwood in 1910 and has been in business here up to the time of his recent illness. He was married to Mrs. May Cheeseman on July 20, 1915 at Warren, Wis.
He passed away at 8:40 p.m. on Friday, December 21, 1945 after an illness of three years. On January 3, 1943 he underwent an operation at Sacred Heart Hospital, eau Claire, and has been very ill ever since. He was at the Madison General Hospital from August 21 to September 3, 1945 where he again underwent an operation and has suffered extremely ever since. Mrs. Westcott was with him continually during his illness. He was the sole survivor of a family of 11 children.

He leaves to mourn, his wife, a nephew Will Westcott, a sister-in-law and several nieces and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 12 noon on Sunday, Dec 23 at the Schiller Funeral Parlors with Rev. A.J. Abbott officiating. During the service Mrs. Albert Dahl and Mrs. Louis Behrens sang “Rock Of Ages” “the Old Rugged Cross” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere,” accompanied by Mrs. John Meng on the organ. The body was then taken to Millston where he was laid to rest.
