Morgan, Dorothy M. (Wokatsch) (17 MAY 1929 - 23 JAN 2014)

Dorothy M. (Wokatsch) Morgan, 84, Marathon, died Thursday, January 23, 2014, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital after a long battle with multiple sclerosis.

Dorothy was born on May 17, 1929, to the late Henry and Edna (Bartelt) Wokatsch in Merrill. She grew up on the Wokatsch family farm in the township of Marathon. In her younger years, she worked for Wisconsin Public Service Corporation.

Dorothy married Llewellyn "Bud" E. Morgan, Jr., on July 25, 1959, at St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church in Marathon. Together they owned and operated Morgan Sand & Gravel in the township of Rib Falls. Llewellyn preceded her in death on January 10, 1991.

Dorothy enjoyed listening to polka music and dabbling at the piano. She had an inner strength and perseverance that carried her through 25 years with multiple sclerosis. Dorothy always maintained a positive attitude that her health would improve. She persevered through numerous health setbacks, hospitalizations, and rehabilitation with a tenacity one would not expect from such a gentle person.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Timothy) Lemmer, Marathon, and their family, Matthew (Alisha Duncan) Wausau, Mallory (finance Nicholas Halpin) Eau Claire; and Lois (Gordon) Stieber and their family, Kimberly and Justin, all of Marathon; one brother , Lawrence (Bonnie) Wokatsch, Wausau; Caroline Wokatsch, Marathon; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marion (Morgan) and Virgil Stack, Marathon, David and Diane Morgan, Stillwater, MN, and Jerome and Vivian (Morgan) Hajenga, Princeton, WV; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Henry J. Wokatsch, one sister-in-law, Virginia (Morgan) Hagengruber; and one brother-in-law, Robert Morgan, as well as her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Esther (Wichman) Morgan and Llewellyn E. Morgan, Sr.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday January 30, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church, Marathon. Rev. Jon Hadler will officiate. Burial will be in the Edgar Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon, and again on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

The family would like to thank Dr. Katherine Patterson of the Marshfield Clinic and the staff at Aspirus Wausau Hospital for their care. We would also like to thank the past and present staff of The Gardens at Forest Park Village for their care of Dorothy and for improving Dorothy's quality of life for 13 years. We would also like to thank Pastor Hadler and the members of St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church for their regular visits.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church, 206 Hemlock Street, Marathon, Wisconsin, 54448-0647 or to Dorothy's family to be donated to the Multiple Sclerosis Association.
